✅It’s an essential part of both spoken and written Spanish, and native speakers use it all the time: especially when expressing wishes, emotions, uncertainty, opinions, recommendations and hypothetical situations.

🫯 But for many of us learners, the subjunctive feels like one big, scary grammar cloud that’s best avoided.

And I get it. I was exactly the same.

The subjunctive can be tricky: it doesn’t exist in quite the same way in English, it can be used in so many different situations, and it’s often taught as a huge list of complicated rules that are difficult to actually apply in real life.

But here’s the thing: you can’t really avoid the subjunctive if you want to speak Spanish naturally.
